Executive Team

The Executive Team behind the Portugal Ocean Race is experienced and diversified. Led by race founder Brian Hancock, along with co-founder Ricardo Diniz and Race Director Larry Rosenfeld, the Portugal Ocean Race is in good and capable hands.

Race Director and CEO
Overal Race Management

Rosenfeld, a highly successful businessman turned professional sailor, will fill the key role of Event CEO and Race Director. A lifelong sailor who has sailed just about every kind of boat from dinghys to Super Multihulls, Rosenfeld is uniquely qualified to manage the Portugal Ocean Race and act as Race Director while the event is underway.

In 1999 Rosenfeld sold his multi-million dollar software development company to ORACLE in order to pursue his sailing ambitions. He co-founded Team Adventure and along with Cam Lewis built a massive 110-foot super catamaran to compete in The Race, a nonstop circumnavigation of the world. Rosenfeld filled the vital role as navigator for the trip and also navigated, along with sailing legend Olivier de Kersauson, the maxi-trimaran Geronimo when they set a transpacific record from Los Angeles to Yokohama.

Global Media Relations and Communications

With over a quarter million miles of offshore sailing experience including three Whitbread-Round-the-World race campaigns to his credit, Hancock is imminently qualified to take on the responsibility of communicating the event to a global audience.

As co-founder of the Portimão Global Ocean Race and Communications Director for a number of global sailing races over the last decade including the Around Alone and Oryx Quest, Brian is in a unique position to promote and conduct media relations for the Portugal Ocean Race.

As the author of six books, Brian is also a sought-out motivational speaker and presenter.
